Who is Jon Pyzel?
Jon Pyzel is an American shaper based on the North Shore of Hawaii since around 1995. He is the go-to shaper for John John Florence, a two-time WSL world champion. What started in a backyard workshop has become one of the most respected surfboard brands in the world.
What is Pyzel's Funformance range?
A concept invented by Pyzel: boards designed to maximise fun in small to medium conditions, while maintaining a shortboard feel. The White Tiger was born as a side-project for John John Florence, who wanted a board to have fun when the waves weren't perfect. The concept then led to an entire family: Gremlin, Astro Pop, Happy Twin, Tiger Twin. This makes up the majority of GlissEvolution's selection - ideal for Atlantic coast conditions.
What is Pyzel's Tiger family?
The Tiger family was born from the White Tiger, a fun board created for John John Florence. He then asked Jon Pyzel to make a shortboard version for competition for weaker waves - this became the Red Tiger. Then the Power Tiger for more powerful waves, and finally the Tiger Twin as a twin fin. Same DNA, different personalities depending on the conditions.
Does Pyzel offer mid-lengths?
Yes. The Mid Length Crisis and the Crisis Twin are available at GlissEvolution. Mid-lengths designed for fun and versatility - more accessible than shortboards, with Pyzel's performance expertise.
PU or EPS: which construction to choose for a Pyzel?
PU/Polyester: classic construction, softer and more traditional feel, more accessible price. EPS/Epoxy: lighter, more durable, and more responsive. Both constructions are offered by Pyzel. The choice depends on personal preferences - both offer the same shape and performance from its design.
