Frequently Asked Questions about Duotone

Everything you need to know before buying

What is the difference between Duotone and North Kiteboarding?

Duotone is the direct continuation of North Kiteboarding. In 2018, following a trademark dispute with The North Face, the brand was renamed. The team, technologies, and expertise remained identical. Duotone belongs to the German group Boards and More (ION, Fanatic, NDK).

Which Duotone kite should you choose to start kitesurfing?

The Duotone Evo, without hesitation. Versatile and forgiving, it's forgiving of piloting errors while offering enough performance for long-term progression. 3-strut construction, available from 6 to 14m² in Standard, SLS, D-LAB, and Concept Blue. Go for a 9m² if you weigh less than 75 kg for 15-25 knots. Vs Rebel: the Evo is more forgiving and takes off earlier. Vs Dice: the Evo is more stable, the Dice is more agile.

What is the best Duotone kite for big air?

The Duotone Rebel SLS. 5-strut Penta TX frame, unparalleled vertical boost and hangtime. Tested in the conditions at La Baule and Pornichet, it's the kite we recommend to 90% of experienced riders. Available from 6 to 14m², wind range for 9m²: approximately 13-32 knots. The D-LAB version in Aluula D/TX is the absolute top – lighter, more reactive, but more fragile and ~50% more expensive. If you're hesitating between Rebel and Evo: the Rebel is more powerful for big air, the Evo is more versatile and forgiving for everyday use.

Which Duotone kite for kitesurfing in waves?

The Duotone Neo SLS. Exceptional drift, instant repositioning – the benchmark kite for wavekiters. Available from 6 to 12m², 3-strut construction, in Standard, SLS, D-LAB, and Concept Blue. Vs Evo in waves: the Neo drifts better and pivots faster, but the Evo is more versatile outside of waves. For freestyle, consider the Dice SLS (fast loops, explosive pop, 6-12m²).

Which Duotone kite for light wind riding?

The Duotone Juice D-LAB. Real sessions from 8-10 knots thanks to the full Aluula D/TX construction. Available from 11 to 17m², wind range for 13m²: approximately 8-18 knots. No Standard version – the lightness of Aluula is the whole point. A game-changer if you ride at spots with irregular wind.

What is the difference between Duotone Standard, SLS, and D/LAB?

Standard: robust construction, best value for money – our recommendation for 80% of riders. SLS (Strong-Light-Superior): Penta TX frame, ~30% lighter than Standard, excellent performance/durability compromise – the sweet spot for regular riders. D/LAB: full Aluula, maximum performance, minimal weight, ~50% higher price than SLS – reserved for experts. Concept Blue: recycled materials, identical performance to Standard, available on Evo, Rebel, Neo, and Unit.

What are all the Duotone kite models and for which riding style?

Evo (6-14m², 3 struts): versatile, from beginner to experienced. Rebel (6-14m², 5 struts): big air and freeride, benchmark boost. Neo (6-12m², 3 struts): waves, drift, and repositioning. Dice (6-12m², 3 struts, SLS only): freestyle and responsive all-rounder. Juice (11-17m², D-LAB only): light wind, sessions from 8 knots. All models except Dice and Juice are available in Standard, SLS, D-LAB, and Concept Blue.

Which Duotone wing to start wing foiling?

The Duotone Unit, the world's best-selling wing. Stable, powerful, with Fusion Handles and the MOD3 S canopy for unprecedented comfort. Available from 3 to 7m² in Standard, SLS, D-LAB, and Concept Blue. For 15-25 knots, a 5m² is suitable for most riders. Vs Slick: the Unit is more stable, the Slick is more manoeuvrable for freestyle. Vs Ventis: the Unit covers medium wind, the Ventis goes lower (from 10 knots). For downwind, check out the Stash (30 g single-skin parawing, from 2.0 to 5.6m²).

What is the Duotone Foil Assist and how is it different from an eFoil?

The Foil Assist is a on-demand electric assistance designed by Cyril Coste (creator of Takuma). Unlike an eFoil where the motor runs continuously, here you use it for take-off and restarts, then you switch it off for the pure foiling experience. The battery (~3.76 kg, 159.6 Wh) is worn at the waist via a floating eHarness – your board remains light. Compatible with 11 foil brands via fuselage adapter. Range: 30-60 min depending on use.

Can you take Foil Assist batteries on a plane?

Yes. Each battery is 159.6 Wh, intentionally below the IATA limit of 160 Wh. The set includes 2 batteries for 30-60 minutes of range. Must be transported in carry-on luggage – a regulatory requirement for lithium batteries of this capacity.

Which Duotone bars and boards should you choose?

Bars: the Click Bar Quad Control (FLITE99 lines, Click-In Iron Heart system) is the benchmark – the Trust Bar offers a more accessible alternative. Kiteboards: Select (freeride), Jaime (freestyle), Gonzales (wakestyle), Soar (kitefoil). Surfkite: Volt, Whip, Blur. Wingboards: Sky Free (beginners), Skybrid (versatile, compatible with parawing and foil assist), Downwinder Slim SLS (downwind). Foils: Glide (freeride), Carve (manoeuvres), Spirit GT (race).

How does the Duotone warranty work?

2-year legal warranty. By registering your product on the Duotone website within 60 days, you get an additional 6 months of warranty. As an authorised dealer, GlissEvolution manages after-sales support directly – no need to send it to Germany.
